What is Transferrin saturation?
how loaded your iron carriers are
Transferrin saturation shows the percentage of transferrin that is carrying iron. It drops early in iron deficiency and rises early in iron overload.
The value is calculated from serum iron and TIBC. It is a sensitive early marker of iron status and is also used to screen for haemochromatosis.
