What is Homocysteine?
an amino acid linked to your B vitamins and your arteries
Homocysteine is an amino acid whose levels are governed by B6, B9, and B12. Raised values are linked to higher cardiovascular and cognitive risk.
Homocysteine is metabolised using B vitamins. When B12 or folate are low, homocysteine builds up. The value is a functional measure of B-vitamin status as well as an independent risk marker.
